ID Smart Security is a trading name of ID Security Systems Ltd — founded in Birmingham in 2006 by directors Ian Harris and Dennis Storrod with a clear vision: to deliver innovative, bespoke, and reliable security solutions tailored to each client's needs. Between them, Ian and Dennis bring over 60 years of combined industry experience to every project.

We are not a box-shifting security company. We are a security design practice that happens to install what it specifies — and maintain what it installs. That distinction has defined how we work since 2006, and it is the reason clients in demanding regulatory environments continue to trust us.

ID Security Systems Ltd was founded to address a persistent problem in the commercial security market: systems being sold and installed without the site knowledge to make them work properly. Camera placements that left blind spots. Access control zones that did not reflect how a building was actually used. Alarm systems generating false activations because nobody had mapped them to the operational rhythm of the site.

We built our practice around a different principle. Before any specification is written, before any equipment is selected, we conduct a professional site survey. We walk the building, review the threat profile, understand the compliance obligations, and speak to the people who will actually use the system day to day. The design that follows is specific to that site — not templated from a previous installation, however similar it might appear on paper.

SSAIB Approval — What It Means for You

ID Security Systems Ltd is independently assessed and approved by the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board( SSAIB Ref: WMID104 )— one of the UK's principal security industry regulators. SSAIB accreditation is not self-certified. It is awarded following rigorous assessment of a company's technical competence, management systems, installation quality, and ongoing compliance with British Standards.

Our directors hold SQSS (Suitably Qualified Security Specialist) status — a recognised qualification that underpins our ability to conduct formal Security Needs Assessments and produce system specifications that meet relevant British and European Standards. All installations use high-quality components sourced primarily from trusted UK suppliers.

In practical terms, SSAIB approval matters in two specific ways. First, commercial insurers increasingly require or offer preferential terms for premises protected by SSAIB-accredited systems. Second, for clients in regulated sectors — pharmaceutical manufacturing, aviation-regulated facilities, and government premises — working with an SSAIB-approved installer is often a procurement prerequisite, not simply a quality indicator.

"Security should be designed for the environment it protects — not the environment the installer happens to know best."
ID Security Systems Ltd · Company Founding Principle · Est. 2006

How We Work — From Survey to Aftercare

Every installation follows the same five-stage process, regardless of the size or complexity of the project. This is not a workflow document — it is the structure that ensures every system we deliver performs as specified from the first day of operation.

01

Independent Site Survey

A qualified specialist visits your site before any product discussion. We assess the physical environment, existing infrastructure, threat profile, access patterns, and any regulatory obligations specific to your sector. This survey forms the foundation for everything that follows.

02

Bespoke System Specification

We produce a written specification for your approval before any installation work begins. This document defines the technology, placement, integration points, behaviour rules, and compliance provisions for your system — not a standard template with your name attached.

03

Professional Installation

Our engineers install to the agreed specification with minimal disruption to your operations. For regulated environments, we maintain full documentation throughout the installation process to support your audit and compliance requirements.

04

Commissioning & Handover

Every system is commissioned, tested, and signed off before handover. We train your designated staff on day-to-day operation and provide full documentation: system drawings, equipment records, access credentials, and maintenance schedules.

05

24/7 Aftercare & Maintenance

We provide ongoing maintenance, firmware management, and 24-hour support for every system we install. Systems are reviewed against current standards at each maintenance visit. If your compliance requirements change, we will tell you before your auditor does.

Commercial building entry — professional access control installation at a UK regulated facility by ID Smart Security
Correct access control design accounts for security zones, compliance obligations, and the operational reality of how a building is used — not just the hardware specification.

The Sectors We Serve

Our experience is concentrated in environments where security carries specific regulatory, compliance, or safeguarding weight. Each sector demands a different kind of expertise — and a different kind of conversation before design begins.

Schools & Education
Safeguarding-compliant access control, perimeter security, and visitor management for primary, secondary, and further education sites
Warehousing & Logistics
24/7 surveillance, ANPR vehicle access, and perimeter protection for high-value stock and large-footprint distribution facilities
Aviation-Regulated Facilities
CAA-compliant access control, airside boundary protection, and integrated security for aerodrome and aviation-related premises
Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences
GMP-compatible access zoning, controlled substance protection, and audit-ready security design for manufacturing and research environments
Government & Public Sector
Security-cleared installations aligned with government protective marking requirements, designed for public sector estates and sensitive premises
High-End Residential
Discreet, design-conscious security for high-value homes — integrated CCTV, smart access control, and monitored alarm systems that complement rather than compromise the property

Security That Works for Your Business — Not Just Your Risk Register

ID Smart Security now secures thousands of customers across the UK — from large distribution warehouses and bonded aviation facilities to schools, office suites, industrial units, and high-end residential properties. A properly designed security installation earns its cost in ways that go beyond the prevention of incidents. For commercial operators and regulated facilities, the operational and financial case for getting security right is substantial.

SSAIB-accredited installations are recognised by commercial insurers — in many cases leading to a reduction in premiums that offsets a meaningful portion of the installation cost over time. For clients in aviation, pharmaceutical, and public sector environments, a documented, audit-ready security system reduces the administrative burden of regulatory inspection. For schools, quality access control infrastructure can be a positive factor in site safety assessments.

There is also the simpler operational argument. A system that works quietly and reliably in the background — one that your facilities team can actually use, that does not generate false alarms, that integrates with how your building runs rather than working against it — is worth more than an impressive specification that causes daily friction.

ID Security Systems Ltd — Founding Principle

"We do not sell systems. We design solutions for specific environments — and we stand behind them for the life of the installation."

What to Expect When You Work With Us

We will not quote for your project without visiting your site first. This is not a sales tactic — it is the only way to produce a specification that is actually fit for purpose. A security system designed from a floor plan and a phone call will have gaps. We have spent nearly twenty years fixing other companies' gaps — and drawing on over 60 years of combined industry experience to do it. We have no interest in adding to them.

From the initial survey through to ongoing maintenance, you will deal with qualified engineers who know your installation. We do not operate a call centre. When your system needs attention, you speak to someone who can help — and in most cases, someone who has been on your site before.

If you are reviewing an existing installation, we are equally willing to assess and advise without any obligation to engage us for the remediation. If your current system is adequate, we will tell you. If it is not, we will explain specifically why — and what a properly designed alternative would look like.

Beyond security, Ian and Dennis are actively involved in King Charles' Business in the Community (BITC) and currently serve as Chair of the 12/8 Business Group — supporting peer-to-peer mentoring and guiding fellow entrepreneurs on their business journeys. It is the same values-led, long-term thinking they bring to every client relationship.

Common Questions

Straightforward answers to the questions we hear most before a first conversation.

We are based in Birmingham and work with clients throughout the UK. The site survey is always conducted in person — our team will travel to you regardless of location. Whether your site is local to the Midlands or at distance, the same process applies: we assess the site before we design the system.

ID Security Systems Ltd is SSAIB-approved — independently assessed by the Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board. SSAIB accreditation is recognised by commercial insurers and required or strongly preferred for regulated-sector security installations. It is not a self-certification; it involves ongoing assessment of our technical standards, documentation, and installation quality.

Yes. We work across a wide range of site types — from single-premises SMEs to multi-building regulated estates. The design process is the same regardless of scale: a professional site survey and a system specification built around your specific environment and obligations. The system you end up with may be simpler or more complex, but it will be right for your site.

We provide 24/7 aftercare and ongoing maintenance for all systems we install. This includes scheduled maintenance visits, firmware updates, documentation reviews against current standards, and responsive support when something needs attention. You will not be managing a warranty claim process with a third party — we are responsible for the system we installed.

Yes. If you are unsure whether your current installation is adequate — or you have a compliance review or change of use coming up — we can conduct an independent assessment of your existing system. If it is fit for purpose, we will tell you. If there are gaps, we will document them specifically and advise on remediation. There is no obligation to engage us for any subsequent work.

Start With A Site Survey

Every project begins the same way — a qualified specialist visits your site, assesses your environment, and tells you what a properly designed system would look like. No obligation. No product pitch before we have seen the site.
